The Pearl Ribbon Lapel Pin has been used to promote public awareness of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSDS) which some people now call Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and is also known as The Shoulder-Hand Syndrome, Causalgia and Sudecks Atrophy. Very little is known or even understood about Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome some relate it to the irritation or abnormal excitation of nervous tissue which leads to adnormal impulses along the nerves that in turn affect blood vessels. This is broken down in to two type retaining to the type of nerve damage or lesions, the treatments used are different types of medication combinded with distinct physical therapies with some people turning to alternative treatments.
